Take in Margaret River’s stunning scenery and attractions including wineries, galleries, breweries, local produce, forests, caves and lighthouses – with the knowledge of local expert and award winning guide Neil McLeod.
Day One – to Margaret River via Mandurah and Busselton
On day one we make the scenic drive from Perth through the charming seaside towns of Mandurah, where we’ll take a coffee break at a café by the foreshore; Bunbury where we’ll visit the Featured Wood Gallery & Museum, then onto Busselton where we stop for a delicious lunch.
Busselton is home to the famous Busselton Jetty, the longest timber pile jetty in the southern hemisphere stretching 1.8km out into picturesque Geographe Bay.
On arrival to Margaret River we stop in at local artisan Vasse Virgin formerly known as Natural Olive Oil Soap Factory. In spring we’ll take the opportunity to see the spectacular wildflowers on a short bush walk.
As the day winds down we head to the McLeod family farm to see mobs of Western Grey Kangaroos in their natural environment, we might even meet Neil’s friendly horses… Before settling into your accomodation we take a drive to the coast for spectacular views of world class surf breaks, Margaret River hosts the best surfers in the world during April each year for the “Margaret River Pro”.
Day two is packed with amazing food, wine, culture and scenery, as we join the popular Eat + Drink + Explore Tour. We depart your accommodation at 9:10am for a day spent tasting wine, craft beer, coffee, cheese, olive oil and condiments, and everyone’s favourite – chocolate! Lunch is at the award winning Cowaramup Brewery, where we’ll also enjoy a complimentary crafted brew, or some lovely local wine.
We return for the evening to Margarets Beach Resort at around 5:00pm, where you’ll be able to relax after a busy day and dine at your leisure (evening meal at own expense). You can walk to the beach and watch the sun set over the ocean – superb!
Day Three – Incredible Natural Highlights
Day Three is our third and final day, on which we’ll explore the region’s stunning scenery and fantastic natural and cultural attractions on the Forest, Cave & Lighthouse tour.
We check out of Margarets Beach Resort at 8:00am, before making our way to Redgate Beach, where you’ll hear stories of shipwrecks and other tales of the region. The tour goes underground at the spectacular Mammoth Cave, one of just a few caves in the south west which contains fossils.
A scenic drive through the majestic Boranup Forest will take us to Boranup Gallery, showcasing beautiful and creative wood designs and furniture. Tea and coffee can be purchased from the Boranup Gallery Café – the homemade scones are a favourite!
Then it’s time to head seaward – to see Hamelin Bay’s spectacular beach with its fine white sand, clear blue water and friendly stingrays swimming in the shallows. We pass through Augusta with stunning views of the Blackwood River before arriving at the tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia, Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, where we’ll take a guided tour and spot the point where the Southern and Indian oceans meet. Watch out for whales – southern right, humpback and blue whales can often be seen from the towers!
We stop for lunch and a tea or coffee at the Deck Chair Café in Augusta, before hitting the road and travelling through wine and dairy country along the Bussell Highway, back to Margaret River.
You’ll have some free time in Margaret River town to stroll around or pick-up a special memento or gift to take home. Then it’s all aboard again, as we farewell Margaret River at around 3-3:30pm and drive back to Mandurah or Perth.
We’ll pick you up
Our friendly driver and tour guide will pick you up from your Perth hotel or Wellington Street Coach Stand outside the Perth Train Station.

After checking many tours for Margaret River and reviews we decided on the Neil Mcleod Tour, and glad we did. The whole trip was made easy as Neil is from the area, and his knowledge of the history about Margaret River and people who helped make it what it is today was amazing. The whole three days were perfect, very relaxed, wineries, chocolate, cheese tasting what a day. I loved the Visit to the “Chapel” built by Geoff Edwards in memory on the Battle of Crete, and the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse. All I can say is if anyone is thinking of seeing Margaret River please consider “McLeod Tours” you will learn more from Neil than reading a book. There are not many tour guides that give that extra touch to make sure you have a great time. Thankyou Neil for 3 wonderful days, Regards Lorna

We have just returned home to NZ after a wonderful holiday to Western Australia. One of the highlights of our trip was a 3 Day Margaret River Escape Tour with McLeod Tours. We were amazed how much Neil was able to include into such a short time. The variety of places we visited and experienced was incredible. The underlying reason for such a successful tour is due to the high level of planning and organisational skills practiced by Neil and his Team. We recommend Neil McLeod Tours to anyone who wants a tour that covers a great deal in a short time with outstanding local knowledge and a humorous and friendly style.Thank you Neil and Team!!

The three-day tour gave us far more than what the brochure described. Neil McLeod was a wonderful driver/tour leader/guide and added a lot of personal experiences to his commentary as he had grown up in the Margaret River area. The visits to wineries, chocolate factory, olive press, wood turning workshops, wildflowers and other places were first class and our accommodation at the Margaret River Resort was excellent. Delicious lunches at well chosen cafes/restaurants were included in the cost of the tour; also breakfasts. Highly recommended.
