first-light-Busselton Jetty, Perth to Margaret River Tour

Sun Rise at Busselton Jetty

On day one we make the scenic drive from Perth through the charming seaside towns of Mandurah, where we’ll take a coffee break at a café by the foreshore; Bunbury where we’ll visit the Featured Wood Gallery & Museum, then onto Busselton where we stop for a delicious lunch.

Following lunch we’ll take a leisurely walk along the famous Busselton Jetty, the longest timber pile jetty in the southern hemisphere stretching 1.8km out into picturesque Geographe Bay. After stretching our legs at the jetty we turn for Margaret River where you’ll have some free time in town to stroll along the main street and maybe pick-up a special memento or gift to take home.

As the day winds down we head to the McLeod family farm to see mobs of Western Grey Kangaroos in their natural environment, we might even meet Neil’s friendly horses… Before settling into your accomodation we take a drive to the coast for spectacular views of world class surf breaks, Margaret River hosts the best surfers in the world during April each year for the “Margaret River Pro”.

Your night will be spent in comfort at the four-star Margarets Beach Resort (by the coast) or stay at Margarets Forest (in the town centre). Evening meal at own expense.

Day Two

bud-burst-in-the-vineyardDay two is packed with amazing food, wine, culture and scenery, as we join the popular Eat + Drink + Explore Tour. We depart your accommodation at 8:20am for breakfast at The White Elephant café by the beach. After breakfast we begin a day spent tasting wine, craft beer, coffee, cheese, olive oil and condiments, and everyone’s favourite – chocolate! Lunch is at the award winning Cowaramup Brewery, where we’ll also enjoy a complimentary crafted brew, or some lovely local wine.

We return to our accommodation at around 5:00pm, where you’ll be able to relax after a busy day and dine at your leisure (evening meal at own expense).

Day Three – Incredible Natural Highlights

Day Three is our third and final day, on which we’ll explore the region’s stunning sceneryneil-his-beloved-horses and fantastic natural and cultural attractions on the Forest, Cave & Lighthouse tour.

We check out at 7:20am for breakfast by the beach, then we will make our way south to Redgate Beach, where you’ll hear stories of shipwrecks and other tales of the region. The tour goes underground at the spectacular Mammoth Cave, one of just a few caves in the south west which contains fossils.

A scenic drive through the majestic Boranup Forest will take us to Boranup Gallery, showcasing beautiful and creative wood designs and furniture. Tea and coffee can be purchased from the Boranup Gallery Café – the homemade scones are a favourite!

Then it’s time to head seaward – to see Hamelin Bay’s spectacular beach with its fine white sand, clear blue water and friendly stingrays swimming in the shallows. We pass through Augusta with stunning views of the Blackwood River before arriving at the tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia, Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, where we’ll take a guided tour and spot the point where the Southern and Indian oceans contos-beachmeet. Watch out for whales – southern right, humpback and blue whales can often be seen from the towers!

We stop for lunch and a tea or coffee at the Deck Chair Café in Augusta, before hitting the road and travelling through wine and dairy country along the Bussell Highway, back to Margaret River.

You’ll have some free time in Margaret River town to stroll around or pick-up a special memento or gift to take home. Then it’s all aboard again, as we farewell Margaret River at around 3-3:30pm and drive back to Mandurah or Perth.

We couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to the Margaret River region than that provided by McLeod tours .The local knowledge and history of the area provided by tour guides Neil and Lincoln together with their personal attention made this one of the most enjoyable and memorable holidays we have had. So many great memories and humorous anecdotes to relate to friends and family on our return with an unquestioned recommendation to use McLeod Tours if you are contemplating visiting Margaret River. In three days ( to name but a few highlights) we saw the sights of the famous Margaret River main break, the main township, sampled some of the great local produce from some top wineries, chocolate, cheese, coffee and brewery establishments, travelled through some majestic hardwood forests, toured some stunning limestone caves and took in many coastal vistas including the absolutely breath taking Cape Leeuwin lighthouse where the Indian Ocean and the Great Southern Ocean meet. The whole experience was typified by great food and wine, scenery, accommodation, stories and of course meeting some colourful local characters which certainly added to the enjoyment factor of our experience.
We were in Western Australia for nearly three weeks and we were so pleased we had such a great introdction to WA with McLeod’s Maragert River Tour.
We will definately be back.
